How Hilton Head Nannies Was Started
Ms. Krogulski was a professional nanny who traveled the country for many years working with families of many different backgrounds and with many different needs. She has also worked in churches, served in the mission field, in teaching positions in both elementary and preschools, and in the dormitories of boarding schools. She came here to interview with a family and knew the first time she crossed the bridges to Hilton Head Island and met the two beautiful children she would be nannying for that she was "home".
Over the years, she has fallen in love with the Lowcountry, the people here, and has become well established in the community that she cares so much about. She is still very close with the family she moved here to work for and has also become "Jen-Jen" to many other children in the area along the way.
How Hilton Head Companions Was Started
In 2005, after many years of unexplained illness, Ms. Krogulski was encouraged by one of her physicians to cease her work as a "live-in" nanny and begin working part-time. By 2006, Ms. Krogulski was ill enough that she was in bed much of the time and by 2008 she was almost completely housebound. During this time, she lost much of her ability to walk long distances, stand for more than a few moments at a time, was unable to shower without using a shower chair and unable to lift her arms above her head for more than thirty seconds at a time to wash her hair. Life during this time was frightening and challenging, to say the least. Her faith in God and His plan for her life gave her strength to face each day as her body changed and she lost the ability to do activities of daily living.
On December 31, 2009, Ms. Krogulski's life changed. After 14 years of unexplained illness that progressed and more than forty doctors, she found a doctor that gave her a diagnosis of a rare autoimmune disease. With treatment, life would improve greatly and Ms. Krogulski would go on to regain most of her muscle strength and abilities, including walking up to 2 miles on good days.
Those frightening years of living on a sofa and in the bed are still very much a close memory. She understands what it is like to need the assistance of others while desperately wanting your independence. She also understands the unique challenges family members face when caring for someone they love. The start of Hilton Head Companions is an answer to a call for compassionate care for those who face the same challenges she faced not so long ago. Ms. Krogulski and her team are looking forward to embracing you and your loved one while providing the compassionate and loving care you need.
